Drugstore Beauty Awards 2015

2016 is almost here so I thought I’d finish off 2015 with my drugstore beauty awards.  I love investing in certain high end products but I think I will always be a drugstore girl at heart.  Here are my top products from 2015.

This gives you a gorgeous glow which blends well and looks natural.  My go to bronzer!  Available from Boots in 5 shades for £7.00 each.

Foods for Heavenly Hair

What girl doesn’t know the horrors of a bad hair day.  Well I seem to have been having an extended bad hair day for the past few months no matter what I put on it.  After wanting to tear my hair out (excuse the pun) I did some research and I discovered that what you eat really does effect the health and condition of your hair.  Well as I want to turn my bad hair days to good ones (and I wouldn’t mind emulating Blake Lively) I am going to be introducing the following items into my diet.

The iron content in Spinach helps red blood cells carry oxygen to hair follicles which is needed for healthy hair growth.  It also contains Vitamins B, C & E, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium and Omega 3 which are all needed for healthy hair.

Eggs are high in protein and contain Biotin which is a B vitamin essential for scalp health and hair growth.

Walnuts are another source of Biotin which helps strengthen hair and reduce hair loss.  They are also a good source of Vitamin E and a lack of Vitamin E can lead to brittle hair which easily breaks off.

Poultry i.e. chicken or turkey is a good quality protein which is essential for healthy hair.  Protein strengthens the hair and increases the bio-availability of iron which promotes healthy hair growth.

Sweet Potatoes contain Beta Carotene which is converted to Vitamin A by the body and Vitamin A is necessary for cell growth including hair.

Salmon is full of Omega 3 fatty acids which feed the oil gland around the hair follicles helping to lubricate the hair.

By adding these foods within 6 months to 1 year I should notice a real difference in my hair (here’s hoping!)

Top 5 Bargain Beauty Favourites of 2015

bargain beauty favourites

It’s hard to believe 2015 is nearly over but what a great year it has been for bargain beauty finds!  It was difficult to pin it down to just 5 for this post but these are the products I use every week (some every day).  Let’s get going!

Ok so this first product is one I know a lot of you use, it’s the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water.  I can’t speak highly enough of this, it removes my make up like nothing else but is still kind to my spot prone skin and has actually helped enormously in clearing it (after years of using spot specific products that just dried up my skin and didn’t sort out the problem).  Also for under £5 this lasts for ages, it really is a wonder product.  Available from Boots

I know I’m a little late to this bandwagon as I’ve heard so many people talk about this but I’m wary of using treatments on my hair as I feel a lot of them weigh it down and leave it greasy.  Well I have finally found one that doesn’t do this and leaves my hair silky soft, it’s the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Reconstructor.  The first time I used this and rinsed it off I couldn’t believe how soft my hair was and it’s been a weekly treatment ever since.  It also smells amazing! Available from Boots

I had long read about the benefits of Dry Skin Brushing but hadn’t invested in a brush as I thought 1/ it would be a chore and 2/ it would irritate my skin.  I don’t know what made me finally order one but I’m really glad I did as it’s been a great investment.  It honestly makes my skin feel so much softer, it doesn’t irritate and for just a couple of minutes use before you go in the bath or shower it makes you feel great afterwards – energised and invigorated.  I really recommend getting one of these, I got this one from Amazon

I don’t think you can have escaped this year without hearing about the joys of Coconut Oil and it’s many uses.  I thought I would give it a whirl and it’s now my go to moisturiser.  When you buy the jar the oil is solid inside so I pop it on top of the radiator while I’m in the bath so it can melt and then it’s perfect to use.  You can also use it for oil pulling and I think I’m going to try that in the New Year – (whiter teeth and drawing out toxins – yes please!)  Again I purchased this from Amazon

I discovered this brand while shopping in Sainsburys and it was half price at the time so I picked up the Argan Body Oil.  I have been suffering with some very dry skin on my hands for a while and have been using so many different products to try and clear it up and this is what finally did it.  I now use it every night before bed and it smells so nice, it’s lovely to drift off to sleep to.  Available in store from Sainsburys.
